Full Description
Kyoto is a city of quiet craftsmanship — and few crafts are as quietly astonishing as sampuru, the art of the food replica. Tucked into an intimate atelier a short walk from Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion, this hands-on workshop invites you to try it for yourself. Under the close guidance of a skilled instructor, you'll learn the modern materials and techniques behind these remarkably lifelike pieces, then create your own from start to finish. In a small group of no more than eight, there's room to slow down, ask questions, and make the experience truly your own. The session can be led in English, Japanese, Cantonese, or Mandarin — simply let us know your preference in advance. All materials, along with an apron and gloves, are provided. You'll leave in just over an hour with something far more lasting than a photograph: a handmade keepsake of your time in Japan, and a new appreciation for one of its most delightful crafts.
